Formal report writing

Formal report writing is a very demanding and time-consuming task. It requires a great number of skills: analysis, critique, argumentation etc. Formal report writing is an important element of students’ education almost in any sphere: economics, business administration, marketing, management etc. Formal report writing aims to achieve the following goals:

  1. Elaborate students’ analytical and argumentative skills,
  2. Familiarize them with the peculiarities of business communication,
  3. Formal report writing improves learners’ ability to express their thoughts in the most concise and accurate manner.

Very often students feel discouraged when they have to do such tasks. Yet, they should remember that formal report writing can become an inseparable part of their workplace activities. In many cases, person’s career depends on the quality of his/her formal report writing. These guidelines may be of some help to students who have not mastered these skills yet:

  1. Formal reporting writing can serve some of these purposes: to convince the audience; to inform the reader; to make recommendations; to draw attention to a problem and so forth. So, you should clearly formulate the goal that you wish to attain.

At first glance, formal report writing may seem a boring and backbreaking activity, especially if a student lacks necessary information. Nonetheless, this exercise can significantly improve person`s decision-making and problem-solving. The most important thing is that students do not take it as an ordeal, but as an interesting challenge. Formal report writing is a part and parcel of both academic and professional career. This is why learners must not disregard it.
